Friday 3/27 Family Message
Summary : Friday Message.
Happy Friday,
I am grateful for the nice weather outside. The weather sure can change moods and behavior quickly around here as staff continue to work tirelessly to help students make it to the end of the 3rd quarter on April 7th. Please check in with your students to make sure they have all their assignments and projects completed to meet their academic goals. Being in class is essential to passing classes. Talk to your students about being on time for class and staying in class during academic time. As we all would love to be outside in nice weather and hang out with friends, that is not a great choice for students trying to earn credit towards graduation.
Can you believe that NH seniors have exactly 47 days left in the school year? Prom is 33 days away, May 30th. Senior checkout starts on June 2nd. The days are going to pass quickly. We are almost to the finish line. WE got this Hale! The last day of school for 9th through 11th graders is scheduled for June 17th however June 10th is the NHHS Class of 2026 Graduation at 7:30 p.m. Please find more detailed information on schoolwide events and activities in the daily bulletin on the NH Website.
It is important to share some information regarding the 26-27 budget cuts impact on Nathan Hale staffing allocations and programs. As many people know, schools get projected student enrollment numbers that drive the staffing FTE (Full Time Equivalency) allocations for the building. We received the following projected student numbers based on student enrollment by grade levels: 9 (219), 10 (223), 11 (192), and 12 (228). Thus, our projected student enrollment is around 823 students. I would say, we may be small, but we are a mighty 2A comprehensive high school nestled in the heart of the Seattle Metro League.
- These smaller numbers have greatly impacted NH school counseling services with an .8 cut to counseling and 1.0 cut to the counseling secretary. I will work with the school counseling team and staff to determine the best service model for students, families, and school partners.
- Classroom sizes will be true to district teacher contract at 1:32 ratio. Classes at Hale have typically ranged from 26-32 students per class depending on the size of the grade level.
- We have faded out the French program and kept Spanish and Japanese as our primary world languages. This was a decision made in previous years as three world language options are hard to fund in a small comprehensive high school.
The Nathan Hale Foundation has graciously helped fund additional FTE allocations to ensure we keep elective options for students in our performing arts department, positively impacting the music and drama programs. It is never too late to see how you can support the Nathan Hale Foundation and keep programs alive and active at Hale. We can’t do it without YOU and them.
Unity in the Community was so amazing. My heart was so happy seeing students celebrating their cultural identity and heritage from around the world. They carried their flags, wore their traditional regalia, played music from their culture, and walked with pride in our all-school unity parade. Students got to pick a variety of sessions sponsored by peers and local community members, ranging from Theater Dance for Everyone to Stop the Bleed, and/or Argue and Win! Students each chose the workshop session that spoke to them. Unity is something we should all be proud of at Nathan Hale. Any time students get the opportunity to lead, they do it seamlessly.
Spring sports are in full swing. You can find our spring sports schedule on the Metro League website and also on our website in the Daily Bulletin. Next week is the last week to sign up for Track & Field. We are looking for more throwers and jumpers. It was nice to get outside yesterday to watch track and field athletes compete. The highlight of my night was seeing our girl’s fastpitch team rally and hit homeruns to beat SAAS. Go Raiders!
The next grade check is on April 3rd and will be based off 3rd quarter grades. Now is a good time for parents to check students’ grades to see if they are meeting their academic goals. If you have any concerns about your students’ grades or progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teachers directly and/or contact their school counselor or administrator for support and guidance.
