Summary : Happy Friday.

Family Message

Happy Friday,

It was nice to get back to school after a much-needed mid-winter break. I hope everyone had a wonderful week. We now have 27 days until the end of the 3rd quarter on April 7th. We have Mentorship/Advisory 5 days a week when students have potential time in their day to get additional support. Please encourage your students to attend Mentorship/Advisory to get academic support from staff.

Varsity Girls Basketball play in the state tournament at 2 p.m. tomorrow vs Sequim High School at Bellevue College. There will be a bus leaving Nathan Hale at 12:30 p.m. from the student parking lot. For those students interested in riding the bus, please complete the permission slip available at the bus before getting on. Parents need to sign off on their student’s form or may email Darby Haskins djhaskins@seattleschools.org to give permission. Students will need to pay for their own ticket which costs $12.55 (cash is NOT accepted so purchase Varsity Girls Basketball tickets online or pay by credit card at the door.) Come watch and cheer on our team! Hale Yeah!

Spring Sports start on Monday, March 2. See the Nathan Hale Athletics website for the spring sports tryouts/practice schedule. As a reminder the following must be completed to be eligible to attend tryouts/practice:

  • Parent/guardian login to FinalForms and select student’s spring sport.
  • Parent/guardian AND student complete all online forms in FinalForms.
  • Current sports physical must be approved in FinalForms – free sports physicals available at the Teen Health Center in our building, call 206-302-1840 for an appointment.
  • Purchase ASB card within 2 weeks of tryouts (you can tryout/practice before purchasing the ASB card).

Double check your student’s FinalForms account this weekend to make sure everything is complete so that they are eligible to attend tryouts/practice beginning Monday!

Next week we will begin hosting the Naha High School students from Naha, Okinawa, Japan for our annual student exchange. The Naha students will be attending classes with their host students during the two weeks they are here in Seattle and will have an opportunity to experience school life at Hale! This is a great opportunity for your student to connect with students from Japan.

Bite of Hale is coming soon! Bite of Hale is our annual Hale event that showcases our community, cultures, and food. This event is open to the community. Attendees purchase tickets to buy bite size samples of a variety of foods. The Bite of Hale is a fundraiser that supports general ASB, including Hale sports, clubs, newspaper, and cheer. The Naha students will be performing a dance among other entertainment groups that evening. If your community group is interested, you may support Nathan Hale by hosting a table: Bite of Hale 2026 Table/Basket Sign up.

Superintendent Shuldiner is hosting Superintendent Community Engagement gatherings across the city. The two locations closest to Nathan Hale are scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Eckstein Middle School and Thursday, March 26th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at James Baldwin Elementary School. There is also a virtual meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd from 6 – 7:30 p.m. with a link forthcoming.
