Thursday 10/9 Family Message
Happy Thursday,
Wow, the week flew by fast. I had to take a sick day on Tuesday. Please make sure everyone is staying healthy. There seems to be a bug roaming around. Remind your students to not share food or drinks and make sure to wear a coat as the weather is changing very quickly. The Vaccine Clinic is coming to NHHS on the following Sundays: October 19, 25, and November 2.
I am sending this today since tomorrow is an in-service day for staff and NO SCHOOL for students. Please take advantage of the day and ask your student to share their academic grade standing and look at their grades. The 1st quarter ends on November 5th. Grades are available on the Source.
This week we had our NH Site Visit with Dr. McCarthy, regional executive director of schools for the NE region. Ms. Burrell took him around the school to visit classrooms and share all the happenings with our PLC work as a school. Staff are working collaboratively within their departments on their PLC teams to go deeper with Curriculum Embedded Assessments, UDL, creating positive spaces for students, and increasing communication with families in accordance with our CSIP plan.
Hygiene & Clothing Drive for Clothing Closet
Did you know that Nathan Hale has a Clothing Closet? Ms. Lyndsey (our school social worker) and Chereen (our behaviorial health coordinator) are hosting a fall hygiene and clothing drive for the Clothing Closet between October 13-17! Please drop off new hygiene supplies, new socks and underwear, and new/gently used winter clothing items in the main office.
They are also looking for help with organizing clothes and supplies! If you are interested in volunteering in the Clothing Closet, please contact Chereen in Portable 4!
Student Clubs
Next Wednesday, October 15th is our Nathan Hale Club Fair during Mentorship time. We encourage all students to JOIN 1-2 clubs and stay active during high school. Joining a club is a good way for your student to find peers who have the same interests and talents. If we do not offer a club that interests your student, they are welcome to charter their own club through our ASB. Forms are available in the main office. Students should talk with Mr. Swarts if they have questions.
Curriculum Night – Thu, 10/16
Curriculum Night is next Thursday, October 16th. Next week your student should come home with their daily schedule on our Curriculum Night Info Sheet. Classroom visits will start at 7:00pm. Please follow your student’s daily schedule and experience the day in the life of your student at Nathan Hale. This is important to students and staff that we work in partnership to support student growth and success. Staff enjoy meeting parent/guardians and sharing what their classroom environment is like for your student. High school is not easy and every day I am impressed with how much our students take on, both in and outside of school. They are busy, and the more we support them in working with other adults, the more they will be prepared for life beyond high school.
Before curriculum night we will have a NH Community Resource Fair in the Commons from 6:00 to 7:00pm. We encourage families to come meet NH community partners and get resources for your student, learn about clubs/athletics at Hale etc.
At 6:15pm we will have a Senior Parent Meeting in the PAC (junior families invited to attend as well, if interested). Come find out about everything seniors and make your journey to graduation smoother. The next scheduled Senior Class Meeting is on October 22nd during Mentorship in the PAC. You can view senior information posted on our website under Senior Class Info – Class of 2026 to stay informed.
The SPREE Committee will be selling PIZZA BY THE SLICE as a fundraiser to support Senior SPREE. They will be in the hallway between the AC and the Commons. Bring some cash, grab dinner at Hale and enjoy meeting other families!
Healthy Youth Survey – Thu, 10/16
The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, interpersonal relationships, school experiences, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. This will be offered during English classes to grades 10 and 12. Survey results are used by schools, communities, and State agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. Participation in the survey is voluntary, and steps are taken to ensure student privacy. There are no names or codes used to link a survey back to a student. Please read the Information for Parents/Guardians and Youth Letter for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey.

We are excited to announce upcoming visits from several prestigious universities to our campus. Oregon State University will be here on October 13th at 1:00pm. Students must sign up in the Counseling Office to receive a pass to attend. Following that, Washington State University will visit on October 23rd at 11:45am, the University of British Columbia will be here on October 29th at 12:05pm, and both University of Oregon and Seattle University Law School will join us on November 13th at 11:45am. These are fantastic opportunities to learn more about each institution, so be sure to mark your calendars and sign up to attend! If you have a college of interest and want them to visit, please contact Mrs. Thompson or Mr. Rance in the counseling office. They are working diligently to set up college visits at NHHS.
No student ID? Student portraits? Photo Retake Day!
Photo Retake Day is on October 23rd. Please save the date if your student did not take a photo on Raider Day and/or needs to retake their photo. Any portrait package that was purchased needs to be returned to re-order portraits with retake photo. Students who missed Raider Day need to take a photo to get a current ID card. Find information on how to order your student’s portrait on the School Photo webpage.
