I hope everyone takes time to enjoy the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The first day of school is officially Wednesday, September 3rd. School starts at 8:50 am to 3:40 pm. Please help make sure your student gets to school on-time. Plan extra time to ensure your student can navigate the public transportation system smoothly. We will not start our Early Release Wednesday schedule until September 10th, when school will release at 2:25 pm. A NHHS Bell Schedule will be included in your back-to-school packets. I highly encourage students and families to put the schedule somewhere in your home or place of living so that students and parents can utilize it when planning events and activities to avoid impacting their school schedule.

I understand it is a busy and exciting time of year for students and families. School administration and staff just finished three days of professional development to be prepared to open the doors to students and families next week. As a school community, our focus this school year is “In your shoes, you’re not alone.” Our hope is that we create a safe and healthy learning environment for all students, staff and families to be successful. When we can be comfortable in our own shoes and be vulnerable to build positive and trusting relationships with others, we allow people to be who they authentically are in our school community. And the more we connect, the more opportunities we must see we are not alone, as many people may have the same lived experiences, goals, challenges, ambition and history that resonate with them. Incoming Hale Juniors and Seniors!

All Seattle high schools offer SAT/PSAT School Day, which means that you will have the opportunity to take the SAT/PSAT entirely for free at Nathan Hale. We hold School Day in the final couple of weeks of October. More details will come in the next few weeks. If your student has a qualifying disability and needs testing accommodations, though, we need you to complete the required testing accommodations paperwork ASAP. Here’s how you make that happen:

  • Fill out the College Board Consent Form for Accommodations Request.
  • Have your student return the form to the main office ASAP. The College Board recommends they be in 7 weeks in advance of the testing date.
  • Note: If you do not provide consent for the information to be released, then we cannot request the accommodations, which means your student will not have them on testing day.

For All to Read

In close, please continue to view our Nathan Hale website and look for school messages that may be specifically for your student’s grade level. The first three days of school will be focused on getting students back in the groove of high school. We will hold grade level meetings to ensure students know and understand their Rights and Responsibilities as SPS students. School counselors will be working with school administration to ensure all students have a full schedule. Counselors will not be able to focus on schedule changes for students with full schedules until the second week of school.  Each student will receive a start of school packet by the end of the week from their mentorship teacher with important school information and required forms to return to school. These forms are essential to the daily operations and safety within the school. Thank you all in advance for viewing the forms and returning all required documents. Have a safe three-day weekend. See you all on Tuesday at Raider Day. We look forward to seeing parents and families at the NHCO and Nathan Hale Foundation Parent/Family coffee during Raider Day from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Stop by and introduce yourself. Go Raiders!
