Friday 5/24 Message to Families

Nathan Hale Friday 5/24 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

Although it was an up and down week with our weather, school spirit didn’t dip during YDD (Yankee Doodle Days) Week! It was great to see what students and staff wore for dress up days! Among the activities was a competitive student v. staff basketball game on Wednesday, which staff won by 2 points! The week culminated in a spirit assembly today where additional events like class cheer, tug-of-war and relay races were held in front of our student body.

Also this week, Business Math courses held a joint culminating Food Truck Festival, where students shared their final Food Truck projects made from math equations and business strategy to a larger school audience — all to increase financial literacy.

As a reminder, in observance of Memorial Day, there is no school on Monday, May 27th, 2024.

World Language Film Festival Results

Last night our World Language Department held their 71st World Language Film Festival, where students and families came to observe films made by students in their World Language courses: French, Japanese, and Spanish, and determined which film won. They are happy to announce the winners of the festival. The Audience Choice Award goes to French film: La Corruption by Shaheer A., Eli H., and Hank R. The Judges’ Award goes to Spanish film: Juan Wick 2 by Brody S., Ben M., Barend B., Phylle B., Lux C. And a shout-out to the Library for its stunning presence in at least half of the festival films!

School Climate Concerns

Students and parents have made us and Seattle Public Schools aware of concerns regarding discrimination, harassment, and hate speech at Nathan Hale. The administration is currently investigating these concerns in partnership with the Office of Student Civil Rights. I encourage parents and family members to check-in with your student and their social media activity. If additional concerns or incidents arise, please report them directly to the administrative team. We rely on engaged parents to help us maintain a safe and a positive learning environment for all. Please note that Seattle Public Schools Board Policy 3207 prohibits the targeted harassment, intimidation, and bullying of district students, and engaging in negative targeted behaviors may result in disciplinary action under this policy.

Blood Drive Results

Our Leadership students coordinated a blood drive this past Tuesday, May 24th with BloodWorks NW. Some stats from the day of collection include:

  • 35 donors were registered
  • Out of the 35 donors, 22 were first-timers
  • 23 units of blood components were successfully collected

BloodWorks NW noted: With just one day, your impact has helped many patients in the Pacific Northwest.

Enjoy the long weekend! We’ll see your student back in the building on Tuesday, May 28th. We’ll be entering our final 4 weeks of school!
