Friday 4/26 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

I hope you had a great week and have fun plans for the upcoming weekend.

We are looking forward to our annual HaleYes! Auction! Please join me and our beloved Hale Community for HaleYes! tomorrow, April 27th.Buy your tickets today and join us: Tickets (ejoinme.org). We appreciate the partnership with Nathan Hale HS Foundation and the impact they have supporting all students at Hale reach their potential. You can learn more here: What We Fund — Nathan Hale High School Foundation (nathanhalehsfoundation.org) This year’s event is a very special one, celebrating 60 years of Raider Excellence.

This past Wednesday we had another successful day of learning with our annual Climate Day of Action! Thank you to the students who worked hard to plan and facilitate the day, the staff who supported them including the Climate Justice club advisor Ted Lockery, our workshop presenters from our community, and the Nathan Hale Community Organization who hosted lunch for the presenters. There were over 30 workshops for students to choose from including Habitat Restoration on the Duwamish, How Climate Change Impacts Vulnerable Populations, Seattle’s Tree (and Climate) Emergency, and Native Plant Identification. Groups of students were also outdoors collecting trash around the school!

Arab American Heritage Month

During this time, we celebrate Arab Americans throughout the past and present, and recognize their invaluable contributions to our country. It also serves as a time to combat anti-Arab bigotry, and to challenge stereotypes and prejudices. To learn more about this month, check out the National Arab American Heritage Month webpage.

Seattle Skills Center Summer Application

The Seattle Skills Center summer application is open now for all high school students and this year’s 8th graders. Here are some details:

Session Dates: Tuesday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 30

In-person: 10:30AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday

Asynchronous/Remote: 1.75 hours of asynchronous work per day for each of the 16 days.

  • Students earn a .5 HS CTE credit (and Family Health counts towards their HS Health class requirement).
  • A Summer Skills Center class is a “real class” with “real grades” so their grade goes on their transcript.
  • Students can only miss a maximum of 3 classes.
  • If they have taken a school year Skills Center course, they can’t take the summer introductory version of the same course, but they can take a different class. Example, one of our Auto Technology students plan to sign up for summer Intro to Medical Careers class.
  • Transportation is not provided.
  • A translated robocall and email went out to all 8th-11th grade families on Tuesday April 23rd, and classes fill fast! This is a good opportunity for those students who would benefit from earning a .5 CTE credit this summer.

Go to the Skills Center summer program webpage for more information including course descriptions. Use the link to the Skills Center summer application to apply!

Enjoy your weekend!

Much love,
