Friday 3/24 Message to Families

Friday 3/24 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

I hope you had a great week! Spring has arrived and we are looking forward to warmer, sunnier weather! Yesterday, we held our Instrumental Music Concert, which was a hit for our students, educators, and families, and are  looking forward to our vocal music concert next Thursday. We are a couple weeks away from Spring Break, April 10th through 14th, and this is a great time for all of you to continue to check in on your student’s academic performance in their classes.

Ramadan Mubarak!

We have officially reached the month of Ramadan, in which Muslims will observe fasting for 30 days. Ramadan is a worldwide experience and celebration, a time to deepen the connection with Allah and with family and friends. Ramadan is a time in which all Muslims practice self-restraint, forgiveness, humbleness, empathy, kindness and love. Ramadan brings together diverse communities of people within our school, our community and the world at large. We support and care for our students while they observe this holy month.

Two great NHHS student leadership opportunities

Intent to run form packets for class officers are available in the Main Office. There are a number of positions beyond the traditional offices including commissioners. Please encourage your student to consider running for office or exploring a commissioner office. (Students interested in a commissioner position write a short essay explaining their qualifications.). All details are in the intent to run packet which are due on Tuesday, April 18th.

Principal Advisory Committee applications are available in the Main Office. This is the student committee that advises our administration on issues relating to the school and student life. The deadline for turning in an application is end of day Tuesday, March 28th.

Upcoming Music Concert!

The Nathan Hale Music Department still has one upcoming concert! Come to the Vocal Music Concert, featuring Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz on Thursday, March 30th. The concert will begin at 7 PM in the Performing Arts Center.

Women’s History Month in the Hale Library

March is Women’s History Month and the Hale library has displays up in both the library and the main office. Featured titled include Lifting As We Climb: Black Women’s Battle for the Ballot BoxThe Suffragist Playbook: Your Guide to Changing the World, and Gamer Girls: 25 Women Who Built the Video Game Industry. Families can browse these titles and more by visiting the Hale library’s online catalog. We also just received two shipments of brand new books across all genres. Students are invited to stop by the library to check out our new manga series, graphic novels, romance, fantasy, horror, fashion, psychology, philosophy and more. There’s something new for everyone to be excited about.

Early Dismissal Procedures

The following are procedures for Early Dismissal. Please make a note and help us better assist you when you need your student dismissed early for an appointment or other reason. Students who need to leave early should bring their parental note (which should include your signature and phone number) to the Attendance office upon arrival at school. Parents needing to retrieve their students for an appointment should call the Attendance office at 206-252-3684 or email the Attendance office directly at halehs.attendance@seattleschools.org as soon as possible. Since the Attendance office secretary is usually at lunch from 1-2 PM, retrieving students at the end of the day is not always successful and can be chaotic. Calling early in the morning or as soon as you know that your student needs to leave, yields the most accurate service. If done in advance, parents would not need to come into the building but can just pre-arrange with your student where outside you will meet them.

Have a great weekend!

With love,

William Jackson, Ed.D. (he, him)
