Friday 3/1 Message to Families
Nathan Hale Friday 3/1 Message to Families
Beloved Families,
Happy first day of March! We’ll soon be out from winter with spring right around the corner!
I want to share my appreciation to all of our educators who centered Black History in our classes during Black Lives Matter at Schools Week, and during Black History Month. During my learning walks, connections with educators and students, and curricular planning, I felt the warmth and the deep learning and engagement in our community focused on Black History.
This month we celebrate Women’s History Month, by centering the historical movements, leadership, and contributions that women have made in history. Women’s History is celebrated during March, corresponding with International Women’s Day on March 8th. International Women’s Day began in 1978 as “Women’s History Day” in California. It was recognized as a national week in 1980, and then for the entire month in 1987. In honor of Women’s History Month, I encourage you to ask your students what they are learning and engaging with in their classes.
Raiders Helping Raiders – NHCO Gift Card Drive 3/4 – 15

- Make an online contribution through The Alliance for Education (for group choose Nathan Hale HS – Community Organization – 02227).
- Venmo funds directly to NHCO representative @julia-mitzel.
Please email Julia Mitzel at jmitzel@yahoo.com with any questions. Thank you in advance for making this program a success.
World Language Testing
If your student is able to speak, read, and write in a language other than English, they can sign up to take a world language test. Students can earn up to 4 high school credits and possibly earn the seal of biliteracy which will be noted on their diploma. The next test will be offered on Wednesday, March 6th. Read about how to register and next steps in the Daily Bulletin, available on the NH website.
Bite of Hale, Wednesday 3/13
Bite of Hale is our all-school, all community, evening celebration of food and cultures represented at Nathan Hale. It is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th from 6:00 to 8:00pm. All are welcome! Read more about it on the Bite of Hale news post on the NH website.
Yearbooks on Sale!
The Nathan Hale Heritage yearbook is on sale for $75 for a limited time until March 16th. They can be purchased in the fiscal office during lunch and afterschool or parents can purchase them online 2023-24 Nathan Hale Yearbook schoolpay.
Winter Sports Waivers & Spring Sports
Winter sports waivers are due Friday, March 8th. Approved sports waivers allow students to waive PE credit. Spring sports started this past Monday, February 26th. We currently have over 380 students signed up to participate in spring sports! If your student is interested in a spring sport (check out the Nathan Hale Athletics webpage for a listing of the spring sports), FinalForms should be completed to sign up. Some sports have already reached capacity and can’t be selected, or have a deadline for sign-ups, but others are still open to participate.
Peer Tutoring Update
Peer Tutoring continues at Nathan Hale! This has been a great opportunity for all students! Anyone needing extra support are welcome to come to tutoring on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00pm and Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:15pm in room 1118. The peer-to-peer tutoring is focused on Algebra 1 support for students.
Hale Mail & Daily Bulletin
Sign up to receive the NHHS Daily Bulletin in your email inbox! As spring sports events start up, they will be posted on the top of the Daily Bulletin. It includes scholarship info, volunteer opportunities, and info for parents! Go to the Hale Mail webpage on the Nathan Hale website to sign up.
Have a restful weekend.
