Friday 2/3 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

Happy Black History Month! I hope you had a great week and are ready for the week ahead which will see us transition from first semester to second semester. Next week, February 6th -10th we celebrate Black Lives Matter at Schools Week, which is an annual week of learning designed to explore and promote deeper learning focused on educational justice through the policies and curriculum that promote racial equity. Please check in with your students on their learning next week!

Second semester schedules are found on the Source. Grades 10 -12 will begin second semester classes on Thursday, February 9th. Ninth graders will begin their second semester classes on Monday, February 13th.  The end of the semester is an excellent time for students to return books, uniforms and other materials that have been checked out them. Fines will be due on any unreturned materials.

Keynote Speaker Wednesday 2/8

Next Wednesday, February 8th, Nathan Hale invites Elisheba Johnson to speak during mentorship period. Elisheba Johnson is a curator, public artist and administrator. Johnson, who has a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, was the owner of Faire Gallery Café, a multi-use art space that held art exhibitions, music shows, poetry readings and creative gatherings. For six years Johnson worked at the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture on capacity building initiatives and racial equity in public art. Johnson is currently a member of the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders Network advisory council and has won four Americans for the Arts Public Art Year in Review Awards for her work. Elisheba Johnson currently co-manages Wa Na Wari, a Black art center in the Central District that uses the arts to build community and resist displacement.

Final Grades

Semester One final grades on performance reports will be available on the Source on March 4th for all SPS high school students.

Students and Families: Stay in the Know!

Please remind your student to check their district email on a regular basis for messages and information that may be sent to them. This is how the office and other staff may reach out to your student with important info and news they may want to know. This applies particularly to seniors as we continue through their last school year.

For students and families, the Daily Bulletin is prepared each day for the next school day and includes school information and news of interest. It is emailed to families who have signed up to receive Hale Mail. You can sign up by going to the Hale website page for Hale-Mail. The Bulletin is also available to view on our Nathan Hale website. And for non-English speaking families, items posted on the website can be translated into many languages by clicking on the Google search box at the top right and selecting your preferred language.

Have a great weekend!

With love,
