Friday 2/13 Family Message
Happy Friday,
It is officially our Mid-Winter Break, February 16 – 20. May all students and families enjoy this time to rest and reset to ensure students are energized and ready to wrap up the 3rd quarter on April 3rd. The break is also a good time to ask your students about their academics and make sure they are meeting their academic goals. If they are not meeting their goals, I encourage you to talk to them about getting some work completed during the break.
UW Math Tutors are available for drop-in tutoring at the library during Lunch/Mentorship every day except Wednesday!

Here are some Community Resources for students/families in need. It is essential that students have access to resources when school is not in session. Please reach out to our social worker, Ms. Lyndsey (lbjohnson1@seattleschools.org) for additional resource support.

Budget Season
It is a busy time of year for me leading the school. It is budget season now. I am working hard to ensure that I secure all the resources that we need to keep Nathan Hale running efficiently as a small comprehensive high school. In preparing to submit our final budget on March 19th, many meetings are required to ensure that we have staff, students, and family input through our NH Department Leaders, NH Senate, Nathan Hale Foundation, NH ASB (ASNH), and school staff. My number one priority is to be a good steward of the allotted monies. Thank you for entrusting me with the leadership at NHHS.
Invasive Plant Removal Along the Creek – 2/20
Students, parents, and community members are invited to join us Friday, February 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nathan Hale High School for an invasive plant removal work party along Thornton Creek. Students can earn service hours! We’ll be removing mostly small patches of ivy and blackberries to make room for planting PNW native riparian plants in a few weeks! (Sunday, February 22 is the backup date if Friday’s weather looks particularly bad.) For more information and to rsvp:

Athletics
The Winter Sports season has brought many things to celebrate. Our Raiders could not do it without the support for family and the community. Thank you for cheering on our Raiders and helping them balance school, life and sports as student athletes. Some highlights include:
Bowling competed at state this week and finished 12th! Gymnastics, Boys Swim and Wrestling all compete at districts this weekend. Girls basketball play for district champions for the first time in school history tomorrow, 2/14, 5 p.m. at Foster High School. Come cheer them on!
I look forward to celebrating our student athletes on Wednesday, February 25th at our Winter Sports Dessert at 7 p.m. in the Commons. Be there.
