Friday 10/24 Family Message
Happy Friday,
The NHHS Associated Student Body (ASB) leaders kicked off the 9th grade ASB elections. Freshmen heard from current ASB leaders about the roles and responsibilities of ASB leaders to entice students to run for an open position. I look forward to seeing which freshmen step into their leadership capacity and run for a position. Election Intent to Run forms are due on Thursday, October 30th at 4:00pm in the Main Office. Good luck to all the students who plan to run.
This week it was nice to visit classrooms and see students engaged in small table groups in their AP LA 12-class discussing how people make change and resist in this world through imagery and messaging as authors and producers. Students shared real life parallels from their own life to the short video they watched.
I enjoyed seeing 10th grade students work collaboratively within their small groups to discuss how authors wrap up their ideas to create a powerful conclusion. The class read a variety of conclusions and shared what strategies they believe the author used in their conclusion. It was nice to see students work together and engage with one another.
In one LA 9 classroom it was nice to see students working independently on their in-class essay. Students worked at their own pace and shared how they use the organizational tools taught in class to prepare and write their essay. I enjoy seeing students engaged in learning and getting the support they need from staff to have confidence in their preparation for writing success.
*** Do not forget the end of the 1st quarter is on November 5th. This is your midway check point before the first semester ends on January 27th. I encourage parents/guardians to continue to monitor student academic progress by checking your students grades frequently and/or as needed to ensure students get support in their classes if needed. Access to student grades is through the Source.
This week staff came together during on the early release Wednesday to engage in (RET) Race Equity Training. They discussed student data for students who leave class unexcused.
