Friday 10/21 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

It has been such a great Homecoming week! Having spirit days and lunchtime competitions brought back the normalcy we all are excited to have again in our community. Another highlight of the week has been our club fair held during Mentorship on Wednesday. Students packed the Commons and signed up for clubs that they will join this school year. Athletics were also represented. These two highlights represent our focus on building community and creating a warm, welcoming environment for our students.

Climate Survey

Next Tuesday and Wednesday all students will be taking the Climate Survey in their 4th period class. The Climate Survey gathers information from students that helps us gain a deeper understanding of our student’s experience of school climate, connections, and support. The results of the Climate Survey are used to help meet the goal of the Continuous School Improvement Plan to create a safe and welcoming environment for students. The survey will be Tuesday, October 24th  and continue on Wednesday for students who need to complete it. We want students to take the survey seriously and reflect honestly. The student information gathered from the survey is confidential and those who have opted out are not able to access the survey. More information about the Climate Survey can be found on the Seattle Public Schools website

College Fairs

There are two college fairs happening the beginning of November:

AP Test Registration Deadline

Seattle Public School (SPS) students who wish to take AP exams at their high school must register to take the exam(s) by the district-wide AP Registration & Fees Payment Deadline of November 4, 2022. The fee for AP Exams this year is $107 per exam. Students eligible for free and reduced lunch must pay a $10 deposit to secure their exam order by this registration deadline. Payments (either $107 or $10 per exam) are made for each exam on SchoolPay on the family SOURCE account.

In addition, the College Board assesses a cancellation fee for any exams that are not taken in May. For that reason, students who are unable to take the AP exam(s) after their exam has been ordered for any reason are eligible for a partial refund of $67 per exam of their $107 exam fee. Students eligible for a fee reduction would forfeit their $10 deposit to offset this cancellation fee. Please contact Ms. Greene, msgreene@seattleschools.org  with any questions on AP exam registration.

Elections

There is still time to turn Intent to Run forms in for the Class of 2026 elections. Encourage your student to run for office. There is a meeting during Mentorship on Wednesday, October 26th for students interested in finding out more about running. Intent to Run forms are available in the Main Office. They are due on Monday, October 31st.

Have a great weekend and enjoy what should be some fresh air brought by the rain.

With love,

William Jackson, Ed.D. (he, him)
