Friday 10/14 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

We are getting a last blast of warm summer-like temperatures, though the early mornings and evenings feel like Autumn has arrived. Excellent weather for our Homecoming week ahead. Today our staff had valuable time to collaborate and work together on curriculum and grading practices as well as complete various district trainings. Many thanks to the NHCO for the staff lunch and to the families who contributed salads, cookies and helped set up. We appreciate you!

Tomorrow, we close out our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and I share my appreciation to our educators in building quality learning that is centered on the cultural heritage and contributions of Hispanic Americans. This October, we celebrate LGBTQ+ Heritage month, dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and diverse identities/sexualities history as well as the history of LGBTQ+ rights. During this time, revolutionary icons, events and contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community are recognized and celebrated. Please be on the lookout for learning experiences centered on the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to the history of the United States. In this Friday message, you will see a lot of information coming from your associated student body.

Homecoming Week!

Homecoming week is next week! The Homecoming game against West Seattle High School is Friday, October 21st at 4:30pm. Ticket prices are free for students with ID card and ASB sticker, $4 with just Hale ID card (no ASB sticker), and $6 for everyone else.

Our Homecoming Dance is also on Friday, October 21st! In the Commons. Remember that nobody needs a date to attend the Homecoming Dance. Time for the dance is 8:00 – 10:30pm.

Email nathanhale2023@gmail.com to find out more about what’s involved and to sign up for volunteering at the dance. The Class of 2023, the sponsors of this dance, will be so grateful!

To volunteer in any Seattle Public School, the district has an application process including a background check.

Once cleared to volunteer, please make sure to sign-in at the Main Office before heading to your volunteer location in the building. If you have questions about the volunteer process, please email Rae Keyes at rkkeyes@seattleschools.org in the Main Office.

Club Fair

Our annual Club Fair is on Wednesday, October 19th during Mentorship class. Encourage your student to find a club or two and connect with other students. Students that can connect at school tend to stay the course and graduate. Ask your student which clubs they were interested in at the fair and which clubs they might attend. Students can find the rooms and days clubs meet in the Daily Bulletin (posted each day on the Nathan Hale website) and in the Main Office.

Fall Music Concert

Check out the Music Department’s Fall Concert this coming Thursday, October 20th at 7:00pm in the Commons. Hear some great tunes performed by the Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, Concert Choir, and Concert Orchestra that will get you in the mood for the Fall. Admission is free.

For Seniors – College Application Help

Starting Wednesday, October 19th, the counselors will be available during Mentorship in the Hale library to support students with their college applications.

Freshman Elections

Freshman Elections are coming up. Encourage your student to run for office. There is a meeting during Mentorship on Wednesday, October 26th for students interested in finding out more about running. Intent to Run forms are available in the Main Office. They are due on Monday, October 31st.
