Friday 11/1 Family Message

Happy Friday!

A huge congratulations to the Nathan Hale women’s volleyball team for earning the 2A Metro championship title after defeating Chief Sealth on Halloween and being ranked 10th in State. Hats off to all the players and coaches for their hard work as they head to the district playoffs at Foster High School starting November 7th at 5:30pm.

Hale’s Girls Soccer team came in 2nd in Metros and moves on to District Playoffs with their next game in our stadium at 5:00pm on November 4th. Good luck team!

The Hale Boys Cross-Country team won the District Championship yesterday at Lower Woodland! They will advance to the state meet in Pasco next weekend along with individual qualifiers Hannah B., Anya S. and Georgia V.

One more Hale Yeah! Nathan Hale’s own Darby Haskins was awarded Metro League Athletic Director of the Year! Mr. Haskins goes above and beyond for NHHS athletics. We appreciate him for all that he does for student athletes, coaches, fans, and the school community. Once a Raider – always a Raider…

Tonight, our Raiders of Nathan Hale play Evergreen at 7:00pm. Come to the NEAC and support the football team. Do not let the rain stop you. The Girls Swim Metro Meet started at 4:00pm today at Snohomish Aquatic Center.

Quick reminder – Winter Sports start in the coming weeks. All families need to register their students in FinalForms to ensure participation is cleared for Winter Sports. Do not wait for the last minute as it can be a tedious process. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask Darby Haskins or Courtney Clark for support.

Drill time – Looking ahead to next week, we are going to be practicing (drop, cover, hold) and safe building evacuation and student assembly during an earthquake. Our November drill is Earthquake preparedness with an evacuation. Please ask your student where their mentorship evacuates to on the football field in emergency situations. Student mentorship field locations do not change. We encourage families to talk about emergency preparedness and drill safety with their student as we partner with families to ensure students are prepared and ready during emergencies. We also ask families to remind their students to take drills seriously so that we can ensure they have practiced and are ready to respond appropriately.

This week we enjoyed learning walks in math classes. It is nice to see students grappling with the new Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Our focus this school year is to highlight and capture what students are doing and experiencing in the classroom. The admin team continues to create systems to make teaching and learning a priority at Nathan Hale, so most of the admin time is being spent in classrooms where learning is happening. Quick reminder, the end of the 1st quarter is on November 6th. Please talk with your student(s) about where they are with their schoolwork and deadlines. I encourage families to help students connect with staff to advocate for student success in high school. John Wood, once said, “Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” I believe students, especially Nathan Hale students, can do whatever they put their mind to at Hale.

Students in our Upper House (grades 11 and 12) took the PSAT and SAT tests this week. Hats off to students for coming in and taking the testing environment seriously. I was proud of their flexibility and focus during testing. Students in our Lower House (grades 9 and 10) had the opportunity to have study time before the quarter ends, work on Naviance and share space with Ms. Boz on High School 101 Tools for Success. This was valuable time for students to STOP and reflect on how the first nine weeks of the school year have been for them at Nathan Hale. I was happy to have students share important insight on their schooling experience at Hale and hear valuable feedback from students elevating their student voice.

Due to registration technical issues, the Nathan Hale AP Exam registration and payment deadline have been extended to 2:30pm on Wednesday, November 6th (the end of the school day). No extension can be granted beyond that deadline. Teachers will help students register for their AP exam during class. Cost is $120 per exam, plus credit card fees if paid using the online payment link; no added fees if paid by cash/check. Pay in-person at the Fiscal Office Window. Students on free/reduced lunch, please see Ms. Wong in the Fiscal Office for reduced $20 per exam fees. To request an AP Exam not offered at Nathan Hale, students should complete the Cross District Registration for AP Exam form no later than November 6th. A district College & Career Readiness staff will follow-up with you. If you need assistance completing the form, contact the main office to connect with Ms. Bosworth

Seattle & King County Public Health is hosting a Health Insurance Enrollment event on Saturday, November 9th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Opportunity Center at North Seattle College. You can learn how to sign up for Apple Health (state health insurance), reduced Metro bus fare, reduced electric bill, grocery help, and many other resources. You can also bring your family to receive free COVID 19, flu, and school vaccines. Please see attached flyers in either English or Spanish for information!

Lastly, there will be opportunities for our Nathan Hale school community to open the doors and share what a great school community NHHS is for students, staff, and families. Please share the following dates with your neighbors and friends as we prepare to start planning for the upcoming 25-26 SY. December 12th and February 6th we will host NHHS School Information Nights for prospective families. More details will be shared in future communication.
