Friday 5/12 Message to Families

Friday 5/12 Message to Families

Beloved Community,

I hope you have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine this past week. We are excited for our sunny weather ahead! Since we are expecting much warmer weather next week, please ensure that your student(s) come to school with a water bottle so they can stay hydrated! Classrooms can warm up considerably when you bring a classroom of student bodies together. Temperatures are expected to get into the 80’s next week with Monday due to be quite hot!

Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! This year, students from our Coalition of Asian and Pacific Students will be working with educators to co-design lessons that center the Asian and Pacific experience. Our students have already decorated the library in celebration of API Heritage Month by installing 1000 paper cranes. Folding 1000 paper cranes is said to grant a wish, and is often used to wish for peace, victory, or healing. Read more about API Heritage month.

Last Weekend – Hello, Dolly! from Nathan Hale Theatre

Greetings Nathan Hale theatre enthusiasts and friends! It’s the last weekend to see our spring musical Hello, Dolly! It’s a joyful, musical celebration of life and an invitation to join the parade — say “hello” to love, to friendship, to adventure! Buy tickets or get more information about Nathan Hale Theatre’s Hello Dolly! Tickets are also available for purchase at the door.

Here’s a snippet from a press performance review: “Hale’s Spring musical is a delight from start to finish, with stand-out performances from the spectacular leads, and an ensemble that brings Yonkers and New York City to life with lovably quirky characters. These performers are having so much fun, and there is truly nothing more joyful than watching kids having fun doing something they love.”

The last three performances are tonight, (May 12th), May 13th at 7:00pm, and a matinee May 13th at 2:00pm. (The matinee will be a sensory-friendly performance, designed for people for whom theatre is not typically accessible.)

Check School Email

All students should be checking their school email. This is especially true for seniors, but we would like all students to get in the habit of checking school email. Important information is shared on school email, and students will miss out if they are not checking it. Last week, we sent senior dates, deadlines and information about prom and other activities to the Class of 2023 by school email. Check with your student to see if they are checking theirs.

Stay cool this weekend!

With love,

William Jackson, Ed.D. (he, him)
