Friday 2/17 Message to Families

Friday 2/17 Message to Families

Beloved Families,

We have made it to our mid-winter break! I hope you have a great break ahead, and as you close out for our mid-winter break, I want to share my appreciation to you and our educators for making sure Nathan Hale is a warm and welcoming environment for all students. I am looking forward to much needed rest and am excited for our return. Lastly, we will not send our Friday Message next week, due to the break. Look for my next Friday message on March 3.

Spring Sports

Spring Sports start on Monday, February 27. All students who intend to turn out must complete their sports forms on FinalForms which would include completion of sports specific form(s) as needed, uploading physical and proof of ASB/Activity card payment. You can find the FinalForms login info on our Nathan Hale Athletics webpage.

Students are not able to turn out unless they have been cleared to participate. If you have questions, please email Assistant Secretary, Maria Gutierrez, at mjgutierrez@seattleschools.org.

Mark Your Calendars for the Bite of Hale on March 8!

Bite of Hale is our all-school, all-community evening celebration of food and cultures. The whole family is invited. Tickets are purchased at the door for “Bites” of all the food. All proceeds raised that evening go to the support of clubs and activities at Nathan Hale. More information to come for the first Bite since 2019! Plan to join us for this 30 year tradition at Nathan Hale.

Seattle Skills Center

The Seattle Skills Center is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. All SPS students are eligible to register for and earn credit from half-day Skills Center courses while attending their current high school. Classes provide rigorous, hands-on learning opportunities for students interested in building skills in careers like healthcare, firefighting, education, maritime, and many more while students are still in high school.

Students leave Skills Center with a stronger sense of purpose and understanding of the work environment. Students graduate to attend four year or two-year college, enter into an apprenticeship or job training program, or go straight to work out of high school. Many of the classes offer dual college credit with Seattle Colleges, where students earn credits towards their associate’s degree with free tuition through Seattle Promise.

Browse their programs using the video links below or by visiting the Skills Center website. Students can attend any Skills Center class, regardless of their home school location. Bus, van, and taxi transportation between home high school and Skills Center may be provided.

Steps for students interested in applying:

  1. Learn more about Skills Center by watching this 4-minute video.
  2. Visit the Skills Center website for full course descriptions and to watch videos about specific courses
  3. Complete the required online application form for the 2023-24 Skills Center School year.
  4. Have any questions or concerns? Let us know at skillscenterinfo@seattleschools.org

Skill Center also offers summer courses.  To learn more about their summer opportunities, go to the Skills Center Summer Course webpage.

A Skills Center flyer that lists classes and their locations is available in the Counseling Office.

Yearbooks are on sale through February

The 2022-2023 yearbooks are on sale through February at the price of $70. After February 28, they will not be available for purchase again until April, at which time they will cost $75. Senior families! Grad Ads!

The deadline to purchase Yearbook Grad Ads is just over a month away. Grad Ads are a way to honor your senior in the yearbook with a personalized message and photos. Grad Ads are on sale from now until March 24th. Space is limited, so purchase now to guarantee a spot for your senior. Sales will close early if we sell out of available ad space. Follow the instructions below:

Please note – while the yearbook staff is sharing this information for those who are interested, it is not a required item for seniors.

Enjoy the long weekend! We hope your students have a restful break next week and we look forward to seeing them when we return to school on Monday, February 27.

With love,
