Summary : Happy Friday.

Nathan Hale Family Message

Happy Friday,

We did it! Now it is time for everyone to stop, exhale, take a deep breath and welcome in the SPS Spring Break. Spring Break (April 13-17) has officially started as you read this message.

This week we started our last quarter of the school year on Wednesday. That means we officially have 42 days left in the school year. It’s even less for our seniors! Spring break is a good time to sit down and connect with your students about their academic goals for the final quarter. Students who may be behind in their academic studies should try and get some work completed during the break. Remember the public libraries are always open.

On Wednesday, we held our final Senior Meeting of the year. All seniors were emailed the presentation on Thursday in case they were unable to attend. Please ask your senior about the most important dates coming up.

Student leaders did an excellent job with school ASB elections this week. The results are in, and my hat goes off to all our upcoming student leaders who participated in a great campaign. The following students have been elected into their positions for the 2026-27 school year. Class of 2029/Sophomores: President – Elleah LC, Vice President – Mia C, Treasurer – Delia M, Secretary – Pearl M, Senate – Zoe H. Class of 2028/Juniors: President – Jennie T, Vice President – Kai D, Secretary – Ben P, Senate – Jacob H. Class of 2027/Seniors: President – Kayla R, Vice President – Fiona D, Treasurer – Emanuel F, Secretary – Vanessa C. And for ASNH (Associated Students of Nathan Hale): President – Allyson CM, Vice President – Shivani P. Congratulations to these student leaders!

Today was National Day of (No) Silence which represents a National Day of LGBTQ+ youth action in schools. Students had an opportunity to take a vow of silence for the day to represent the silence that must be kept by many members of the LGBTQ+ community. I appreciate our NH students for making sure that such national days are acknowledged at Hale. Our world is a better place when we care for and value all humans. A highlight of my week was seeing a Nathan Hale senior go out of his way to acknowledge and see one of our NH staff who is deaf and engage in full conversation with them. He explained how important it is for people to see and acknowledge all people so they can feel included, valued, and seen in the school community.

NHHS Campus will be closed over the break. Custodial staff will be working hard to complete spring projects while we are all away. Please do not allow your students to hang out around or on campus during the break. Students who participate in Spring sports should follow the practice plan shared by their coach. The Metro link is shared below.

Athletics – Visit the Metro League website for upcoming games or meet information. Check in with your coaches regarding what spring break practice schedules look like. Go Raiders!

Our Distinct Classroom has made some exciting new changes for 4th quarter. Ms. Alonso will step into the role of Distinct Teacher for the remainder of the year and lead the class. Ms. Alonso shared “The connection I have had with this classroom and students has been so dear to my teaching journey, and I feel so fortunate to work with such wonderful students and teachers. I love Hale and I’m looking forward to finishing out the year with learning, growth, and lots of fun.” She cannot wait to work with all her students in this new capacity. She encourages people to stop by and say hi down in 1122! We are fortunate at Hale to have amazing teacher interns who are on their journey to secure their own classroom and changing the landscape in education.

When we return the week of April 20th, our Climate Justice Club has scheduled a day of learning on Wednesday, April 22nd (Earth Day) for our annual, Climate Day of Action. There will be speakers and workshops curated by the students providing ideas and ways students can get involved locally to protect the environment and promote sustainability. I look forward to this day of action as students have been working hard to make it meaningful for our school community.

As we start to wrap up the end of the school year, I will be sharing important information to help us end the school year smoothly. My goal is to make sure parents/families have information at their fingertips.

Student laptop return at the end of the school year will happen as follows:

  • Seniors will return laptops and chargers during senior check out week, June 2-8.
  • Students in grades 9-11 will return their laptops and chargers in their Mentorship class during finals on Friday, June 10, Monday, June 15, and Tuesday, June 16.
  • The last day to return laptops in Mentorship is Wednesday, June 17.
  • Students who will not be on campus after June 9 will need to return their laptops and chargers in the library before leaving for the summer.
  • Fines for unreturned items include: $350 for laptops, $48 for laptop charger, $50 for WiFi hotspot.

Have a great week off and enjoy the Spring Break.  We look forward to seeing students back in school on Monday, April 20th!

In Partnership,

Jolene Grimes
Proud Principal
