High School Tips
- Mentorship allows opportunity to build connections.
- Mentorship – you can check in with your teachers daily about missing assignments, homework, tests, etc.
- Many Sports are offered at Nathan Hale (football, soccer, swim team, bowling, etc.)
- Joining ASB Clubs (usually meet during lunch) allows you a chance to feel connected with other students who have similar interests.

Clubs
If your interest isn’t represented in a Club, get a few friends together with the same interest, get a faculty advisor, write a charter (we will help) and once it is approved by Leadership, let students know when you are meeting and you have established a new club at Nathan Hale! Graduation Requirements
Core Classes
- Language Arts: 4 credits
- Social Studies: 3 credits
- Math: 3 credits (minimum)
- Science: 3 credits (miniumum)
World Language
World language i snot a graduation requirement.
- Most 4-year colleges require 2-3 credits of a World Language
- Hale offers Japanese and Spanish
Are you fluent in more than one language? You can take the STAMP test through Seattle Public Schools and earn up to 4 high school credits in World Language. The STAMP test is free for all students. Students must have a Personalized Pathway which may be met by taking World Language.
Health & PE
- Family Health is a required course you will take your 9th grade year.
- PE is required to graduate:
- 1.5 credits (3) semester classes 1 class MUST be Personal Fitness (9th grade). You may wave 0.5 credit of PE by playing a sport at Nathan Hale.
- You may only turn in one PE sports waiver per year (maximum 2 PE sports waivers may be used).
- 9th graders cannot waive PE
Art
- Students must have 1.0 credit of Fine Art in order to graduate.
- University of California schools require 2 classes (1.0 credit) in the same type of art. Ex: Ceramics and Advanced Ceramics
Career and Technical Classes (CTE)
- 1.0 credit of CTE in order to graduate
- Examples of CTE Courses
- Career Connections, Photography, Radio, Intro to Med Career, Graphic Design, Horticulture, etc.
Other Graduation Requirements
- Earn minimum of 24 credits

Service Learning
- 60 Hours (15 a year)
- Must be done during high school
- Must be acts of service – cannot be paid or earn credit
- Must complete a form and have supervisor sign
- Examples: Food Banks, Animal Shelter, Tutoring, Homeless Shelter
Registration
- Use the course selection sheet to review courses and organize your thoughts. Learn more on the Incoming Registration page.
- You will be auto scheduled for English, History, Science, and Math
- Students in General Math will take Algebra 1
- Students currently in Algebra 1 will take Geometry
- You will be auto scheduled for Personal Fitness and Family Health
- Exceptions: Unless you are in Band/ Orchestra and taking a World Language
- You will have 1 choice of elective- either one yearlong or two 1 semester electives
- Note this may include a World Language- Spanish 1 or Japanese
Online Registration
- You are not registered UNLESS you register online on the Source
- Use your student account
- Your pre-populated courses will be shown at the top of the screen
- Select the electives box of the elective category you wish to choose (i.e. CTE, Visual and Performing arts, etc). Look for a green check mark.
- Once you select your first-choice classes select your alternatives
- Please make sure your alternates are classes you wish to take. It is highly likely you will end up in an alternate (which need to be different classes than your first choices).
- Once you have completed selecting your course requests, you can select “Submit” on the bottom right of the page. If there are no errors, the next screen will show you a list of course requests.
- Congratulations you have registered!

See You On Raider Day!
- First day of school prep prior to the beginning of the year
- You will get your schedule, locker, take your photo, pay school fees on Raider Day
- You can walk your schedule and request any course change requests
