Friday 9/20 Family Message
Happy Friday!
The weeks are flying by … students are finding their groove and rhythm here at Nathan Hale. Students continue to display quality skills as honorable, skillful, thinking, global citizens. Thank you, families, for your efforts and diligence in getting your student(s) to and from school on time each day. School starts at 8:50am and exterior doors lock at 9:00am. Students who arrive late to school are required to go to the attendance office and get a pink slip for admittance into their class.
Hopefully you received the Start of School packet from your student with important forms and information. Please return the required forms as soon as possible. If you didn’t get a packet, please contact the Main Office at 206-252-3680. Thank you!
We are working hard to set the tone around being on-time for school and classes, cell phone use on campus, honoring academic time, pass/hallway expectations and maximizing each minute of every class period to protect teaching and learning time. (See NHHS schedule below).
To-date I am pleased with how students have been honoring the cell phone policy (please see our Student Family Handbook on our website) passed by NHHS Senate. It is simple; they can use their cell phones (before school, during transitions, at lunch, after school) except during academic time. Cell phones should be kept out of sight, out of mind, put away, stored in teacher device classroom option and/or kept in a backpack throughout a class period.

School Day PSAT/SAT
We will have PSAT/SAT testing at Nathan Hale in October on one of the days between the 28th – 30th. More details will be shared with Juniors and Seniors. If your student has an IEP, 504 or receives MLL services you can fill out the consent form on-line through the College Board. Please return this form to the main office. Direct questions may go to Ms. Burrell alburrell@seattleschools.org
Homecoming
It is around the corner – Friday, October 25, 2024. Our Homecoming game is against West Seattle High School. Kick-off is at 5:30pm. The Homecoming dance will start around 8:00pm. Ticket sales for the dance are coming soon. Guest passes will be available in the office next week. If you are interested in chaperoning the dance, please call the main office and get signed up to volunteer. If you are new to volunteering, please complete the district’s online volunteer process.
Lastly, I appreciated the parents/guardians that reached out to me regarding the lockdown/shelter-in-place last week. I want to be clear that it will always be a priority to communicate to parents/families as soon as possible. I apologize that the time was not as fast as some wished it could be. In the future, we will do better to update parents/families in a timely manner. I appreciate your feedback as we continue to build a strong partnership between school and home.
In close, have a great weekend. Talk to your student(s) about their grades. Ask them what is going well and what may need more attention. We had our first athletic grade check yesterday. If you have concerns about your student(s) academic grades, please feel free to talk directly with their teachers.
In partnership,
Ms. Grimes Edwards
Proud Principal
