I appreciate you all.
The spring musical this year, The Addams Family, kicked off their run last night with their first show! Come see this production! As one viewer stated: “the show is indeed MARVELOUS. It’s also funny, relevant, sweet, and alter-normative….From the leads, to the ensemble, to the pit, to the backstage crew this show highlights the incredible talents, hard work, and commitment to excellence our students are capable of exhibiting.” There are performances again tonight at 7pm, tomorrow at 7pm, and then next week on Friday & Saturday, 5/16 & 17, at 7pm and Saturday 5/17 at 2pm for a sensory-friendly showing. Tickets available at the door or on the Nathan Hale Theatre website. Come out and support Hale theatre.
The Principal Chat happened today. No one showed up yet…I look forward to partnering with parents and making space for continued dialogue. Please look for future opportunities to chat with me.
This week AP Testing was conducted for English Literature and Composition, Computer Science A, and Statistics. Great job to all the students who studied hard and made it through the long tests! We will have two more days of testing next week for Environmental Science, Spanish and Computer Science Principles. Contact Taylor Bosworth (tabosworth@seattleschools.org) with any questions about make-up test dates.
Everyone help me give a big congratulations, our school nurse, Amy Dong was selected to be one of 6 nurses to be recognized at the Seattle Storm Nurse Appreciation Night. Her focus on student wellness and safety, and exceptional dedication over her last four and a half years serving the Hale community stands out! A huge thank you, Nurse Amy!
We could not do it without our amazing teachers and support staff. This week was Teacher Appreciation week. Our staff and faculty are so thankful for the wonderful breakfast and coffee cart provided on Tuesday morning and the fabulous Mexican lunch provided on Thursday! Thank you NHCO, parents, and volunteers for bringing the dishes and treats – we all felt so appreciated! It is never too late to tell a staff member how much you appreciate them. I know it means a lot to staff when parents/guardians acknowledge their hard work and partnership in teaching our young people.
This week in classrooms it was nice to put on a white coat and join students in their physiology class dissect sheep brains. My biggest take away was how much fun learning is when students can-do hands-on learning. Seeing them use what they were learning in class during their lab helped me as a learner engage in their activity. I also had the chance to get into some math classes and see students use their geometry skills to find lengths – measures of arches utilizing a review day. I enjoyed students showing me how they use their mathematical terminology to solve equations and math problems. One student shared he sees the relevancy in their work if they chose to have a career in engineering, construction, and design.

Zoba are forming a panel of seniors and senior staffulty to review speeches, then make an official recommendation to Principal Grimes. Thursday I was able to join our Athletic Director, Darby Haskins, and our six 101 Scholar Athletes at a luncheon at the Washington Athletic Club. This was the 88th Scholar Athlete Awards Luncheon celebrating the achievements of our student athletes. This year the following seniors were honored: Matilda A., Phoebe S., Harper M, Finn L., Xavier C., and Micah C. These seniors’ future plans included the University of Washington, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Macalester College, Arizona State, and University of Hawaii at Manoa. It was so great to see these students receive this award! Congratulations to these scholar athletes!
Congratulations to the following the NHHS Seattle Schools Scholarship recipients: Jet B., Haven H., Arya M., Abby P., and Josemael Z-H. These students were celebrated last night at an awards ceremony presentation at Franklin High School. This scholarship embodies students who have shown scholastic achievement, contribution to school and community, and perseverance. They have an array of postsecondary plans that include the University of California- San Francisco, Seattle Colleges, and Seattle University. We wish them the best in their future endeavors!
Congratulations to our Girls Fastpitch Softball team who are 2A Metro Champions after their win over Chief Sealth yesterday! Boys Soccer is playing a district game tonight on Raider Field at 5pm.
