Friday 11/15 Family Message

Happy Friday!

Wow, the four-day week went by fast, and students just finished their sixth day of the second quarter. Leaving us forty days left until the first semester ends on January 28th. This week at Nathan Hale we focused on taking time to pause and reflect on the first quarter of the school year. Ask your students how they did in the first quarter. Did they meet their academic goals? Most importantly did they PASS their six classes? If your student received an E grade, please partner with the school, and ensure that your student has a plan for the second quarter to improve their academic grades to pass at the end of the semester. Students are encouraged to sign up to meet with their school counselors for support and guidance. Go to the Counseling webpage for information on how to set up an appointment.

  • Max Guerrero – Tomoda (A -Gom). He is out on leave at this time but has a substitute with years of counseling experience, Georgia Turkovich.
  • Kristie Thompson (Gon -N)
  • Kelly Creech (O-Z)

We have a number of events and achievements of our students coming up. I would like to emphasize how all of our various programs rely on your support in many ways, whether it’s your time, your work with your student(s), volunteering, etc. One opportunity to support our programs and the school is starting up. The Nathan Hale HS Foundation is beginning their Annual Campaign. Your support during our current fundraising campaign supports the success of Nathan Hale High School students, staff and programs. For information on recent investments made by your donations, check out: What We Fund — Nathan Hale High School Foundation. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Thank you for investing in the success of our students! Donate — Nathan Hale High School Foundation

It was nice to get into math and science classes today. In math, students focused on being able to write rational expressions that represent averages to answer questions about a particular situation. They had the opportunity to determine the number of T-shirts to purchase at the lowest cost. In Science, students held a climate summit to discuss proposals and solutions to improve their countries’ environmental problems. They focused on mitigation vs. adaptation and the impact prevention and treatment has within their solutions. I enjoyed seeing students engaged in the classrooms and working collaboratively as young adults. Phil Jackson once said, “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team. “ Students working together is a beautiful thing.

Thursday, we sent our volleyball team off to the state VB tournament in Yakima. And today, our girls swim team is competing for state in Federal Way. To find out more about Seattle Promise and get your student signed up please go to seattlecolleges.edu/promise. Our goal at Nathan Hale is to ensure that each student has a plan and pathway to a bright future beyond high school that allows them to be their authentic self as an honorable, skillful, thinking, global, citizen.
