Friday 10/4 Family Message

Friday 10/4 Family Message

Happy Friday!

Tonight, our Mighty Raiders play Lincoln at the NWAC (Ingraham HS) at 5:00 pm. Come on out and support the team and cheer squad.  Remember Homecoming is on October 25th. Kick off at 5:30 pm and Dance at 8:00 pm. All students are encouraged come step out and support NHHS teams and dance the night away. If you are interested in being a chaperone, please call the main office at 206-252-3680 to sign up.

Do not forget the Mattress Fundraiser is this Saturday, October 5th. Support the NHHS Music Program 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in the Commons. We also have a Horticulture Work Party, open to ALL at the Greenhouse starting at 9:00 am. Do not miss out on fun activities and opportunities to support NHHS.

This week I enjoyed seeing students in Spanish 2 use Flangoo to practice vocabulary development and reading comprehension. A Student shared that they are learning to hear and practice Spanish for conversation and mastery. I also enjoyed seeing students in their Computer Science class learn about nesting loops to be able to navigate 2D spaces, make pyramids and explain why their loops work etc. Lastly, I enjoyed seeing students learn and explain the chemical reaction steps in fire science. They showed their understanding of wood and how it burns and what happens when it is burning. It is nice to see students showing the joy for learning and staff making personal relationships with students in the classroom to ensure that learning is happening.

The focus for this school year is bringing joy to our Nathan Hale community through engaging learning opportunities and fostering a strong sense of belonging. We are working on our multi-tiered systems of support, specifically Tier 1 interventions to make sure ALL students become honorable, skillful, thinking, global citizens. October 17th is our Curriculum Night. We look forward to welcoming families to NHHS. We will have a club and resource fair starting at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the commons. The Senior parent meeting starts at 6:15 pm.

We had a successful Fire Drill this week. Students and staff did a great job with our first evacuation drill. Ask your student who their mentorship teacher is and where do they assemble on the field during an evacuation. It is important that students take drills seriously so we can make sure that they know how to respond in a real emergency.

Ms. Lyndsey, our amazing School Social Worker, is preparing to host a Grief and Loss group with a small group of students at Nathan Hale. This group is designed to empower youth with information about what grief is: a normal reaction to loss. Participants will also learn tools for navigating their unique grief journey and build community with peers who are also grieving. For this group, it is important that the loss occurred at least three months prior to the start of the group. Please reach out to Ms. Lyndsey Room 1114 or lbjohnson1@seattleschools.org if you are interested in participating.

FamilyWorks will be back to host their Community Resource Center starting Wednesday, October 2nd at Nathan Hale. If you or your family are needing resources including basic food, Medicaid, utilities, and rental assistance, visit Portable 6 (by the Nathan Hale track) every Wednesday between 1:30-4P to meet with a Community Connector.

Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) is back at Hale to provide weekend meal packs to students every week! These packs are meant to be three, small, light meals for students to have over the weekend. To be added to the weekly pick-up list, please reach out to Ms. Lyndsey Room 1114 or lbjohnson1@seattleschools.org

The Raider Clothing Closet is OPEN! If your student is in need of clothing items and interested in taking a shopping trip to the Clothing Closet in Portable 6, please reach out to Ms. Lyndsey (Room 1114 or lbjohnson1@seattleschools.org) or their Counselor.

Homework Help at the Lake City Library is happening every Tue-Th, 4:30-7:30P. Students are also able to receive a free snack or meal at 5:30P. If your student needs tutoring support, refer them to check out this amazing, FREE resource!
