Friday 5/23 Family Message
Happy Friday!
Tonight is Battle of the Bands at 6:00pm in the Nathan Hale Commons.Come watch NH bands battle it out on stage! More information at Instagram @nhhs_battleofthebands. This is the perfect way to start the Memorial Day weekend.
Seniors had a deadline of today to complete several tasks as well as pay any outstanding fines attributed to them throughout high school, and possibly middle/elementary school. For a list of the items due today, please go to the Seniors-Class of 2025 webpage and look for items due Friday, 5/23. You can check the Source to see if your student still has outstanding fines to pay. Seniors will still be expected to turn in their district laptop (if they still have one they are using) plus any textbooks or materials that have been checked out to them by Senior Check-Out week; these items will not show up as fines at this time since students may still be using them. In addition to checking the Source, they can stop by the Fiscal window before school, during lunch or after school.
May is Mental Health Awareness month and this past Wednesday we had our first Nathan Hale Mental Health Resource Fair. Students and staff wore green, and we welcomed close to 20 community partners into the building for a mix & mingle as a gratitude of appreciation for their positive contributions to the NHHS school community. Partners had the opportunity to tour the school after which they shared community resources with students at the resource fair during mentorship time. I was so pleased to see and hear the commitments our partners continue to make for students, families and the greater Seattle community. A few of the partners in attendance included: You Grow Girl, New Beginnings, Cheer Seattle, Rise Above, Alateen, Providence Hospice of Seattle, NAMI Seattle, Choose 180, Joon, Seattle Public Library, Lambert House, etc. We could not do it without our community partners.
Today, our junior class enjoyed the Junior Breakfast at Magnuson Park. They had perfect weather and great food! It served as a wonderful community-building time for those students able to attend as well as a fundraiser for the class. The class fundraising efforts will go towards their senior events like prom and Senior Breakfast.
On Thursday we honored our Spring Sports teams who qualified for state: Girls Ultimate, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Fastpitch Softball and Baseball! Students, staff and families lined the hallway creating our “Hale Highway” to cheer on our athletes while the band played, and all players’ names were announced over the intercom. I hope our student athletes felt recognized and seen for their hard work and accomplishments. As we continue to wrap up our Spring sports season, please remember the Spring Sports Dessert is on Wednesday, May 28th in the Commons at 7:00pm. Thank you parents and guardians for your continued support in supporting NHHS athletics events and activities.
Here is a brief recap of athletic events still happening: Varsity Fastpitch Softball competed in the state tournament in Yakima today. Varsity Tennis competed today at state and continues tomorrow at UW Nordstrom Tennis Center. Varsity Baseball plays in the state tournament this Saturday, at Bainbridge Island High School at 1pm. If they win, they play again at 4pm. Track & Field districts continue tomorrow at Renton Memorial Stadium. State will be May 29-31 at Mt. Tahoma. Congrats to Varsity Boys Soccer who made it to state. All of our athletes and teams had a great season! We’re so proud of them all!
Next week, Wednesday, May 28th is our Climate Action Day at school. Student coordinators have curated workshops where presenters will share and educate our school on topics around climate justice and ways that each person can make a difference. This is a regular school day and students are expected to attend.
Don’t forget the final Nathan Hale Music Concert is on Friday, May 30th in our PAC starting 7:00pm. We look forward to seeing our Hale community support the music department – both instrumental and vocal classes – in their year-end performances!
Our Semester 2 finals schedule is posted on our website calendar. This schedule is for our 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. Seniors will have their finals scheduled and communicated out to them by their respective teachers.
We are nearing the end of the school year! With this one last long weekend ahead of us, I hope you all have a restful weekend. We will see your student on Tuesday, May 27th.
In Partnership,
Ms. Jolene Grimes
Proud Principal
