Friday 9/27 Family Message

Happy Friday!

This week has been eventful. Four weeks down and things are falling into place at Nathan Hale.

I enjoyed seeing seniors, class of 2025, exploring college and trade school options in their AP Literature class as they prepare to make huge decisions around life beyond high school. I look forward to previewing their senior posters upon completion of their research. I also enjoyed stepping into a US History class and seeing students learn about the importance of Treaty Rights, specifically the Treaty of Point Elliott 1855 and the significance of each article within the treaty. Students are challenged to gain the essential skills to go deeper in content, stay curious and ask questions for personal understanding. I also enjoyed watching students learn how to use prompts to engage in creative writing activities within their classroom. I appreciated seeing an esteemed Hale teacher find multiple access points for students to engage in learning by using different languages in classroom materials. This practice aligns with our commitment to ensure that ALL students have the tools to succeed.

Today, we conducted a shelter-in-place drill that transitioned into an official shelter-in-place due to a staff medical emergency. The NHHS staff received medical attention from emergency respondents and good care on campus. We appreciated how staff and students supported the situation. In the spirit of communication to families, I hope you found the message shared via Talking Points valuable. Within the next few weeks, we will conduct our first fire drill with the local fire department. Fire drills allow us to practice where students and staff should assemble when evacuating the building. Students assemble with their Mentorship groups and Mentorship teachers. Each classroom has clear evacuation routes and teachers take the time to teach their students and mentorships how to respond in emergency situations.

During lunch today, we had our second Raider Rally. I am impressed with our student leaders for taking it upon themselves to create a new tradition at Nathan Hale. Tonight, the mighty Raiders take on the Lakeside Lions at 7:00pm at NEAC (Raider Field). Wear WHITE and come on out and support the team!
