Friday 11/22 Family Message
Happy Friday!
What an eventful last few days we have had with the windstorm and power outage! I hope you all survived it without any property damage or loss. In the event the school is closed or on a late arrival schedule, please look for direct communication from SPS communications, usually addressed to SPS families. I highly encourage all families to ensure that your contact information is up to date.
It was nice to get into a few classrooms this week. I enjoyed seeing students in one history class working amongst their peers to research local and national organizations to gain awareness of each organizations core values and pillars. The activity allowed students to see how their own personal values align with each organization to exercise their civic power. One student said, “it is more than voting and protesting, its protecting and talking to state representatives to get involved within our community.” I like how our students at Nathan Hale practice and model the importance of civic duty and community involvement.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream performance finally kicked off Thursday evening. We have several opportunities for family and friends to experience this great show including tonight and two shows tomorrow. Get your tickets through the Nathan Hale Theatre website or at the door. Our theatre students rocked the house on opening night. I am so proud of them and all of the time, energy and effort it takes to put on a great community performance.
Nathan Hale Horticulture is hosting their annual Winter Open House this Sunday, November 24th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Greenhouse just north of the Jane Addams Middle School parking lot. Poinsettias are available for pre-sale and wreath making workshops are available at 11:00am, 11:30am, 12:00pm and 12:30pm. Various plants, terrariums, fruits and vegetables will also be on sale. The Fall Sports Dessert Night scheduled for this past Wednesday was canceled due to the power outage in the building. It has been rescheduled to Tuesday, November 26th at 7:00pm in the Commons. Monday, we launched Winter Sports tryouts for basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, bowling, boys swim and flag football. Please look at our website to catch live NHHS action.

Financial Aid Night – what a great turnout for this important evening. We had over 50 families show up and take one step closer to college and career possibilities beyond high school. We could not do this without our strong partnership with Seattle Promise. Thank you to our amazing partners.
Good job at State for our fall sports athletes and teams: Football, Volleyball, Cross-Country and Girls Swim! Hats off to all our state athletes and coaches. Parents and families, we appreciate you supporting our NHHS athletics.
Next week is a short week for our students since there is no school on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th in celebration of Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Day. Though elementary schools may not have class due to conferences, Hale students will have classes Monday through Wednesday. School will dismiss on Wednesday, November 27th at the regular early dismissal time of 2:25pm.
Have a great weekend. Be safe and stay warm out there, Hale.
In partnership,
Jolene Grimes
