    Friday, 4/23 Message to Families

    Beloved Community,

I hope you had a good week, and had an opportunity to enjoy the sun! This week we welcomed our students into in-person and remote learning cohorts. It was really special to meet with our students in-person, while also connecting online with our students who remained remote. Much appreciation goes out to all of our educators who have lifted the teaching and learning for our students during this transition. I also appreciate all of you for your patience through this transition. Have a great weekend!

    Important Information On Graduation

We are happy to inform our senior families that graduation will happen in-person this June! The Seattle School District has secured Memorial Stadium based on its designated seating and capacity. This venue will allow some family members to attend as opposed to a graduation ceremony at Nathan Hale’s field with students only.

Due to the change in venue, we have a new graduation date: Saturday, June 12th at 2:00pm.

Senior families should look for a second Senior Bulletin to be emailed home on Monday.

    Testing & Assessments Update

Students will not take Smarter Balanced tests in ELA and Math, or the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science this year. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has made the decision that our state assessments will take place next fall. Spring testing was determined to not support students’ mental health and is not the best use of our limited remaining in-person instructional time this school year. In addition, testing students now would be inequitable in our remote learning environment, many students and families would opt out, and results would not be reliable. Students who may have used the state assessment to meet their Graduation Pathway will have access to an emergency waiver if needed.

For the complete statement click here: Superintendent Chris Reykdal’s full statement. OSPI is already planning for Fall 2021 SBA and WCAS testing including a review of the need to reduce the length of state assessments in the fall and a review of federal and state laws that need to be changed to transform our assessment system into one that provides better information to students, families, and educators. More details will be coming out in the next few months.

    Required Forms for Cohorts A & B

If you have a student who has returned to in-person learning and you have not yet submitted a signed SPS COVID-19 Notice for In-Person Learning Form, please do so as soon as possible. You may email your form back to, or send them in with your student next week. They should drop it off at the Main Office. If you need forms mailed to you via US Mail, please email and note your student's name.

    With love,

    Principal Jackson
