    Friday, 3/19 Message to Families
    Posted on 03/19/2021

    Beloved Community,

I hope you are enjoying the longer days and are looking forward to the start of Spring! This change in weather and the change in season brings a joyous feel for our community. Last Friday, March 12th, Governor Inslee made an emergency declaration for the reopening of High Schools for Monday, April 19th. At this moment, I do not have information on what our reopening will look like, but as we prepare, trust that I will be sharing information with you, and will be seeking your voice and engagement for our re-entry planning. I appreciate your patience and understanding. It is important to remember how far we have come this year together, as it is a reminder that we will only continue to get through this together. Please be on the lookout for information on reopening as it comes.

Addressing racism, hate crimes, and harassment in our community and nation.

To my Asian and Pacific Islander community: You are powerful. We are powerful. Our community is powerful.

We find ourselves in another moment in the ongoing horror of the documented and undocumented abuse and murders of members of the Asian Pacific Islander community. It is important to recognize that people of color in our community experience significant trauma from our reality – despite this, we are resilient, surviving, and thriving. Your wellbeing and mental health matters. Please see these resources:

To my ally community: you have the power to make a difference and protect lives of color. Everyone can do something - and it is important that we show up for each other as bystanders. One of the most important things we can do is let a person who is targeted know that they are not alone.

Consider and read more about the five D’s of bystander intervention: Distract, Delegate, Delay, Direct, Document. Read more about the five D’s here: https://www.ihollaback.org/bystander-resources/.

Please see these resources for additional learning and formal bystander training:

Are you interested in supporting the return to in-person learning at Nathan Hale? Please join the technology task force 2.0. This time around the task force will work collaboratively to ensure the needs of all parties are met as we return to in-person learning. We will start with technology then work to support needs as they arise. Our group of students, educators and parents will meet weekly to help guide the direction of technology use, adoption, and regulation for the remainder of 2020-2021 school year....and beyond!

    Have a restful weekend everyone.
