    Friday, 10/16 Message to Families
    Posted on 10/16/2020

    Beloved Community,

I hope you had a good week and are having a great start to your weekend. We have important messages regarding change in the Technology Resource Center hours, an upcoming flu clinic, information on our Family and Student Surveys, and AP exam information. For families of Juniors and Seniors, we do have special announcements from our counseling department about life after High School!

Technology Resource Center at NHHS evening hours

The laptop service hours in the Technology Service Center have expanded to evenings! The new hours are:

    • Mondays from 11:00am to 6:00pm
    • Wednesdays from 11:00am to 6:00pm

    October Flu Clinic

With over 600 people receiving flu vaccinations at Nathan Hale in September, there are plans to have another drive through flu clinic on Tuesday, October 20th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm in the West/Staff parking lot. Go to the district Flu Clinic page and sign up for a time, or just come by and receive your flu vaccination.

    Pulse Surveys

This fall, Seattle Schools will be gathering student perception data in order to gain a deeper understanding of each of our student’s experiences and needs so far this challenging year. Staff and families will also receive a link to the survey directly from SPS. Please know that all survey responses are anonymous. Nathan Hale will administer the survey to students in Mentorship on Wednesday, October 21st. This survey is brief, covering remote learning, school climate and culture. All survey results will be publicly available shortly after the window closes on October 30th. For detailed information please see the SPS Family and Student Surveys webpage or contact Melinda Greene (msgreene@seattleschools.org).

    Library Curbside Checkout

Every Wednesday from 1:00-4:00pm, our librarian, Dana West, will be checking out books at the main entry of school. Students can come by and browse books on display, or log into the library catalog and place holds on the books they want to read. To view the library catalog online and place books on hold for Curbside Checkout, please visit bit.ly/NHHSHolds. Ms. West looks forward to meeting students who come to check out books. There is always information about the library available on Schoology. Please reach out to her at dgwest1@seattleschools.org if you have questions about Curbside Checkout, textbook distribution, or anything else about the library!

    AP Exam Registration Information

All students in AP classes must create an AP account on the College Board website to take an AP exam. Once the account has been created, students must use a join code provided by their subject area teacher to register for the tests they wish to take. For instance, students taking 2 exams need to get the 2 join codes and register for the exam in each subject area. When registering, students must indicate YES in the online form to generate an order for the test. Exams will not be ordered for “No” or “Undecided” responses. The deadline for registering is November 12th

The cost is $102 for each exam taken, and there will be no charge for students who qualify for free/reduced meals. Please notify Ms. Melinda Greene (msgreene@seattleschools.org) if you qualify. This year payment will be collected February 1 – March 5, 2021 through SchoolPay or by check to the Nathan Hale Fiscal Office. Also, College Board will waive the $40 fee for canceled or unused exams ordered before November 12th and/or canceled before March 5th. This means there will be a $40 penalty for late orders. The College Board has said they will support in-school testing in 2021 and will also provide a contingency testing option-that contains full course content-if school buildings close for safety concerns. To get SAT and PSAT-related Coronavirus updates from the College Board click here: https://pages.collegeboard.org/sat-covid-19-updates.

Free and reduced meal applications can be completed online by going to the district’s Free and Reduced Meal webpage.
